– Deon Day

At the tender age of five, a passion was sparked by the gentle brushstrokes of a mother’s artistry. For Deon Day, the proud owner and visionary behind The Eyeshadow Pad, this passion blossomed into a lifelong journey of creativity.

SM: Can you share the story of how your passion for makeup began and what inspired you to start The Eyeshadow Pad?

DD: My passion for makeup started at age five when I watched my mother apply makeup on herself and her friends. When she walked away, I recall playing with her sponges and brushes because I wanted to feel all grown up. She was very creative about how to apply her eyeshadows and was not afraid to experiment with dramatic looks. My mother taught me to never leave the house without my makeup because she believed it enhanced my natural beauty. During my generation, colorful makeup was not very popular so we always boosted our natural looks with a warm liquid foundation, and we kept what they called a powder sham to keep a matte look and control oil.

They say life takes us full circle. And I find that to be true. During the pandemic, my love for makeup grew into a brand as I began experimenting with colorful pigments and textures to create beautiful, blendable eyeshadow palettes for trendy makeup lovers.

SM: What were some of the biggest challenges you faced when launching a makeup brand during the pandemic?

DD: One of the biggest challenges I faced when launching The Eyeshadow Pad during the pandemic was trying to figure out the best strategy to launch a successful company amidst the COVID-19 crisis. It was critical to ensure that customers understood our policies for the safe handling of products and return policies because people were afraid to try something new. Also, makeup sales declined due to people being out of work.

SM: The Eyeshadow Pad is known for its vibrant and pigmented palettes. Can you tell us about your process for developing these unique formulas?

DD: The process of developing unique formulas begins with selecting manufacturers who offer highly pigmented eyeshadows. Next, I carefully curate the shades in the lineup, considering how the colors will flow and appeal to our customers. This ensures ease of use for both amateur and professional makeup users, allowing them to create looks effortlessly based on the palette’s design.

The goal is to give the client a palette with complementary shades to work with and to inspire creativity in expression with classic or traditional looks.

SM: How do you ensure that your products are both cruelty-free and effective in terms of performance?

DD: I spend hours researching and partnering with suppliers who are committed to cruelty-free practices. I carefully choose suppliers that do not test their ingredients or products on animals and they have verified certifications.

SM: Your brand emphasizes inclusivity with products that suit any skin tone. What steps do you take to achieve this?

DD: As the owner of the brand, I collaborate with makeup artists, beauty influencers, and makeup manufacturers to get insight and feedback on product shades and formulas to ensure overall inclusivity.

SM: Can you describe a particularly memorable moment or milestone in your journey with The Eyeshadow Pad?

DD: The most memorable moment that I experienced with The Eyeshadow Pad was logo design. This was a creative moment as I envisioned the color wheel to inspire makeup gurus to experiment with colors that are meant to be blended into more vibrant hues because bold looks are trending.

SM: How do you balance creativity and innovation with maintaining the high-quality standards of your products?

DD: Balancing creativity and innovation is essential for the success of The Eyeshadow Pad. We will take steps to ensure our products meet quality standards for safety, performance, durability, and regulatory compliance. We are committed to working with verified manufacturers and collaborating with experts in the cosmetic tests and evaluations to ensure our products meet the established quality standards.

SM: What role do customer feedback and community engagement play in the evolution of your brand?

DD: Customer feedback and community engagement play an important role in the evolution of The Eyeshadow PAD. Customers can share feedback, make suggestions, and talk about experiences using our products. By listening to our customers, we can make our products more appealing or improve existing ones to enhance user experience. The Eyeshadow PAD believes that positive customer feedback and engagement are essential for the growth and success of The Eyeshadow PAD.

SM: Could you share some of your favorite makeup tips or techniques that our readers can try with The Eyeshadow Pad products?

DD: Concealers may be used if you have blemishes, dark spots, or under-eye circles. This will provide extra coverage where needed.

Here are my make-up tips:

Before applying our matte-perfecting foundations we recommend a 5-step process to ensure a long-lasting finish.

Cleanse thoroughly to remove dirt, oil, or residual makeup. This creates a smooth canvas for our cruelty-free foundations.

Exfoliate to remove dead skin cells and smooth out flaky or dry patches. This allows your foundations to glide on easily.

Apply a light or oil-free moisturizer that is comparable to your skin. This creates a smooth base for your foundation.

Choose a primer that minimizes pores and is formulated for a mattifying effect. This will help control excess oil and hold your
foundation in place longer.

SM: What’s next for The Eyeshadow Pad? Are there any exciting new products or projects on the horizon?

DD: The future of The Eyeshadow Pad anticipates new products and expansions. In addition to our existing range of products, we are thrilled to announce the launch of a skincare side. This will introduce a lineup of full-coverage foundations with concealers designed for individuals who desire more coverage. These vegan foundations will provide a natural-looking finish, and cater to a wider range of skin types and tones.

Alongside the foundation line, we will introduce refreshing foam face cleansing that effectively removes makeup while nourishing the skin. This formula will ensure a gentle makeup removal while leaving the skin refreshed and clean.

Understanding the diverse preferences of our customers, we are committed to designing more subdued eyeshadow palettes. These palettes will cater to those who prefer a classic and understated look. We will design and offer a range of elegant and versatile shades that can be easily blended and layered over existing makeup.

Expanding beyond eyeshadow, we will also be adding lip liners, matte liquid lipsticks, eyeliners, and eyebrow pencils to the lineup. These additions will allow our customers to enhance their makeup looks with long-lasting color.

Our skincare products will be formulated with high-quality ingredients, providing nourishment, hydration, and protection of the skin.

The Eyeshadow Pad aims to empower individuals to express their unique beauty while caring for their skin. Stay tuned for these new additions as we continue to evolve to meet the diverse needs of our customers. 🔆
