SM: Warren, can you tell us about your early life and how growing up in Toledo shaped your values and aspirations?

Growing up in Toledo taught me the importance of resilience, loyalty, and building strong relationships. The city had its challenges, but it also provided a sense of community that has stayed with me. These experiences instilled in me the value of hard work and the importance of staying true to my commitments.

SM: What motivated you to pivot from managing a restaurant to starting your own business, and can you share some memorable experiences from your early entrepreneurial journey?

While managing a restaurant, I realized I wanted more control over my career and the ability to create something lasting. The transition wasn’t easy, but the drive to build something from the ground up was a powerful motivator. One memorable experience was securing our first major contract, which validated all the hard work and risks taken.

SM: How did your various roles in different industries influence your approach to leadership and teamwork?

Each role taught me valuable lessons about leadership and teamwork. Managing a restaurant honed my skills in operations and customer service, while my later roles emphasized strategic thinking and team cohesion. These experiences have made me a more adaptable and empathetic leader.

SM: What challenges did you face transitioning from managing a restaurant to launching your own business, and how did you overcome them?

The biggest challenge was the shift from a structured environment to the uncertainties of entrepreneurship. Overcoming this required a mindset change and a willingness to learn continuously. Building a strong support network and being open to advice were crucial in navigating these challenges.

SM: What inspired you to start Cavalry Cleaning Company, and what were some of the initial challenges you faced in building your business?

I saw a need for high-quality, reliable cleaning services in the post-construction sector. Starting Cavalry Cleaning Company was inspired by the desire to meet this need with exceptional service. Initial challenges included building a client base and establishing a reputation, but perseverance and a focus on quality helped us overcome these hurdles.

SM: In just 18 months, your business grew significantly. What strategies or principles do you attribute to this rapid growth?

Our rapid growth can be attributed to a relentless focus on customer satisfaction, continuous improvement, and strategic marketing. We listened to our clients’ needs and tailored our services accordingly, which helped build trust and repeat business.

SM: Can you elaborate on your involvement with the American Initiative and how this work aligns with your personal values?

The American Initiative is close to my heart as it focuses on supporting those who serve our communities. My involvement allows me to give back and contribute to the well-being of special operators, firefighters, and law enforcement. This aligns with my values of service, resilience, and community support.

SM: How did earning a degree in Organizational Leadership contribute to your entrepreneurial journey, and what key lessons did you learn during your studies?

Earning a degree in Organizational Leadership provided me with a solid foundation in management principles and strategic thinking. Key lessons included the importance of effective communication, the value of ethical leadership, and the impact of organizational culture on performance.

SM: What are your future goals for Cavalry Cleaning Company and your work with the American Initiative, and how do you plan to continue fostering diversity, resilience, and inclusion in these areas?

At Cavalry Cleaning Company, our goals focus on sustainable growth, eco-friendly practices, and community engagement. We aim to expand our operations and support the American Initiative by launching programs for mental health, career transitions, and family support. To foster diversity and inclusion, we prioritize inclusive hiring, continuous training, community partnerships, and employee support programs. I keep seeing how a lot of successful people thrive because they integrate their businesses into their communities, and I think there’s much to say about leaving our individualism aside and recognizing that we need each other to thrive.
