For me, it would be the recent research shedding light on the significance of non-physical (non-training) stress on injury risk. It’s an umbrella term we call “psychosocial risk factors,” which includes things like mental health, low social support, high job demands, relationships, etc. 

One study on college athletes found that students were 3.19 times more likely to sustain an injury during times of high academic stress (e.g., assessments), even when physical stress (training) remained unchanged. This revolutionizes how we approach injury risk reduction because we suddenly have a lot more modifiable factors that we can target.

For example, by monitoring signs of strain or fatigue, coaches can fine-tune training intensity and duration to prevent overexertion and lower injury risks.
